You’re talking to a friend and you’re in mid sentence when someone swoops in and starts talking to your friend… THE INTERRUPTER! You then place your hand up towards your face to see if you’ve somehow turned invisible, BUT NO! you are definitely there! You stand there a minute longer processing this all while in shock and perturbed that an adult has just disrespected you (they should know better!) And your friend looks a little lost not knowing what to do sooooo… You’re in quite the pickle, as you are new to the area and you don’t want to cause a scene in front of the kids or be known as the person who’s mean and hard to get along with. So you’re left with envisioning yourself body slamming this person as you get your kids to walk home (you’re tired and hungry and the last thing you need to do is get cranky when ‘trying’ to educate this ‘interrupter’ about ‘good manners.’
Here’s What You Do
Let me teach you proper etiquette to those in need!
- If you want to speak to only one of the people wait your turn!
- If you need to say something quick to one person, introduce yourself to the other and say I have a quick message to tell him/her and then I’ll be out of your guys way, is that ok? (they’ll most likely say YES!)
- If you want to JOIN in on the conversation, say HI and INTRODUCE yourself to the person you don’t know and ask to join in so you’re not bored all by yourself.
BOOM! DONE! Now you’re included in a RESPECTFUL WAY! How easy was that? So easy little kids could be taught it and DO IT! I took this example and taught my kids about this and I hope you readers do so as well (if you haven’t already!) It’s important to teach people how to communicate and socialize in a kind manner, this will help us all live in harmony.
Take care readers!
