Is It Still Bad Etiquette To Ask A Persons Age?
The answer is yes! unfortunately it is still considered rude for most of the population, therefore it’s better to be ‘safe than sorry’ so don’t ask!
You’re sitting at the table sipping whatever it is that makes you happy (coffee, tea with honey, wine, Scotch on the rocks or neat). You feel good, you feel happy, ecstatic, it’s going to be a great day because it’s a special day ‘Your birthday to be exact!’ You take a sip as you stare out of the window thinking about life… Am I where I want to be in life? Have I been making fond memories like when I was little? How do I feel about being a year older now? Am I happy to announce my age or is it at the embarrassing point where I begin to lie about it as I subtract 5 to 10 years from my actual age?
I remember a time I was out with my grandma, just a little girl walking along side my brother and her when I guy asked a woman her age in front of the crowd and she got angry at him. ‘Don’t you have any manners?’ she yelled… ‘You’re not suppose to ask a woman her age EVER!’ she added. That was the first time I was taught this ridiculous manner.
What’s the big deal people? I mean come on… We all get older, it’s inevitable! It’s almost as if we frown upon getting older when we should be happy we’re still here and celebrate another year we are given to bum around on earth making friends and experiencing life more. I think we have to change the way we view aging… accept each grey hair, each wrinkle from smiling so much throughout life… and let’s not forget to embrace each day, week, month, and year given to us. Life is a gift! Each day is a gift!
As For ME!
You can quote me on this “I, Eloise, will always blab how old I am because I know how precious life is and I will forever be thankful for each birthday I am able to celebrate!” Today is my 35th birthday! …And mark my words, when I turn 60, 70, 80 I will still proudly say my age to all who will listen. (I really won’t care when I’m an old fart, I’ll care more that I’m a wise, happy and healthy old fart more than anything!)
Now if Brad’s good looking self can’t change your mind, then I’m at a loss (no one can!) Side note: aging vs ageing…I know what you’re thinking… did Brad spell aging wrong? (he must have written that when he was young…) NO! In North America and Canada we spell it ‘aging’ other countries tend to spell it ‘ageing’… Learned something new today didn’t ya?!)
Remember Birthdays are a blessing! Be sure to celebrate each year…Now I must stop writing and enjoy my birthday… until next time TwinCitiesView Community ~wink and high-five to you all~
Take care readers! (and sorry if this post is ‘out there.’ I’ve been hopped up on pain meds and it is hard to function well enough to think and write something clever… I was going to take a week off from writing but I thought ‘what the heck’ this will be interesting to see how I think on pain meds… I hope I didn’t scare you away, I’ll be back to normal soon enough…)
