More On The Topic
Well I must say the statistics of relationships that have a big age gap are not good people! I’ll just give you the stats and then add a few more interesting facts on the matter…
A study of 3,000 people by Andrew Francis and Hugo Mialon, professors in the department of economics at Emory University in Atlanta, found that a five-year age gap means that a relationship has an 18% chance of ending in divorce (versus just 3% with a one-year age difference), and that rate rises to 39% for a 10-year age difference and 95% for a 20-year age gap. Of course this is only one study I found, but the average national divorce rate increases as the age gap increases. (sad but true!)
Couples with large age gaps have more challenges than most other relationships. A major factor in not working out has to do with the younger partner wanting to start a family (DUH!) but what you might not know is not having support for their relationship among family, friends, and society is a BIG challenge these couples have. For some reason having a large age gap is frowned upon when it comes to a romantic relationship… And not having support from others tends to weigh on the relationship, especially when the couple is having a difficult time and they have no one to talk to about the normal troubles any relationship may have from time to time which can cause them to give up. (and the flood of ‘I told you so’s’ comes into play). Also the age gap couples are challenged when it comes to social events (most, not all!) They tend to socialize alone as a couple and separate when it comes to going out with friends, never really intermingling among each others friends, which can cause a strain in the relationship if they allow it to be a problem. There are other factors as well (just like ANY relationship, it just depends on the couple to work them out!)
She did well… don’t you think?! Ha! Good for you Lady!
There’s Good Too!
Just because the stats are against large age gap couples it doesn’t mean they can’t last, some do stand the test of time!
Who’s to say that a partner your own age would treat you better and be a better fit?! Some people are more mature for their age and therefore relate more to an older partner. Some people are more immature than their age group and need a younger person to get their sense of humor and excite them. Some others may like younger partners because they feel youthful. But what it all comes down to is if you have chemistry, you enjoy each others company and help build each other up in life then why not give it a go…
So I hope you found this interesting and may be, JUUUSSSTTT maybe you won’t give the stink-eye to a couple who has one partner noticeably older than the other… If we support them, then we only increase their chances of lasting. So the next time you see an age gap couple walking by you, don’t automatically assume ‘Gold-digger’ ‘Cradle-robber’ who are we to judge?!
Oh, and don’t forget to tell the TwinCitiesView Community what you got on the quiz, it’ll be fun to read (the quiz is not long and I always pick fun ones!) I got the 5 year age gap! (but just so you know you single men out there… I’m not picky when it comes to age…just ask my family and friends… ha!) ~wink-wink~ How YOU doin?
