It’s All About Who You Know! Isn’t it?!
You sit on an old rickety chair from your great grandpa, it was made by his very own hands (you better keep that kind of stuff in the family-sentimental, yes!) You open up the newspaper (because you’re old school) and you come to a story that has caught your eye, a story about a successful person who made their dreams come true… man are they lucky you’re thinking! You know they put in hard work to get there, but you work hard too! You think to yourself ‘What am I doing wrong? Why am I having such a difficult time making my goal successful? Is there something I don’t know?’
Well, it’s not that you’re not smart, or that you’re really doing something wrong, or that there’s something wrong with you… it’s more in the lines of you haven’t met the right people YET! it’s about being at the right place at the right time and meeting a person or multiple people who can direct you and get you moving into the right direction. Don’t give up! Get out there, market, meet as many people as you can, you can do this!
The Truth Behind Who You Know Method
Think about it a minute… It has truth to it, you know?! It’s all about who you know when it comes to making your talent shine and become something great. You just finish school, you’re entering your career field (along with other classmates in your same shoes!) Who gets the job? who gets promoted? how does this happen, what is the process? It’s who knows who for the most part. If you know someone they can vouch for you ‘oh yah, I know him/her… they’re a great person and a hard worker.’ They’ll most likely get the job over someone equally qualified that they don’t know. And the way you move up in the company is not only through hard work, but through a bond you create with certain people in higher positions than yourself.
Take me for example, I have yet to make the most of this blogging and writing career, I’m trying people! (I want this writing to reach millions, future books, ebooks, my current blog, my writing in general-big dream right?!) But maybe I haven’t met the right person(or people) to help guide me along and spread the word of this fantastic blog. OR maybe I HAVE met them, but I have yet to utilize their experience, talent, and network savvy selves! Success is measured in hard work, talent, AND connection among the higher up people. You have to make the most of yourself and hope to meet someone in the field that can take you under their wing, they have to believe in you and be touched by your work, your work ethic, and YOU personally (who you are as a person!) Also, it helps if you have a great idea that will make them money and they’ll help you for a cut (just being honest!)
So continue to sit there on that noisy cracking chair with every movement you make and think… What’s my goal? (revisit the reason of how you came about that idea in the first place) What makes that goal special? What steps have you taken thus far to try to build your empire? What can you do differently OR what can you do more of to get it going? How can you network with others of the same field? who is ‘already’ successful in the field and how can you contact them, or read about their journey to success? How can you spread the word of YOU and your GOAL?
If I were you (and I kind of am, if you’re in the same boat as me) I’d take that nice crisp newspaper, stare at it a little, then picture my story in the paper, with someone else reading about my successful journey, looking at my picture with a happy smile and inspire them to get out there and make it happen for them too. As I drift out of my daydream state and enter back into the real world, back to the table my tea sits on, steaming away, waiting for me to take another sip, I place that newspaper upon the table to no longer smell the paper smell it gives off and I grab my warm cup of tea place it near my lips to smell the green tea and loads of organic raw honey that I love so much, then I take a sip. I place the cup into my right hand to keep it warm, as my left hand reaches for one of my many notebooks, I flip to a blank page, place it in front of me as I grab my pen and get to work. I brainstorm, I write the answers to my questions above and come up with a new approach, a fresh idea to go about making my dreams come true… Who haven’t I met yet?! What successful person can I learn about to take similar steps, to possibly meet the same people they have (or at least research them as well!) to achieve certain goals so that I might move forward?!
If you really want it, if you have the desire to be successful, then research the heck out of it, learn as much as you can, be persistent with meeting as many people as you can, build a bond with them, and never give up… Where there’s a Will there’s a WAY!
I wish you luck and success in your life (what ever success means to you!)
