Get In The Halloween Spirit (make It Fun For The Kids!)
Do you remember when you were little and how excited you were that Halloween was here? The neighborhood was packed with kids, the houses were decked out to scare the living heck out of you. Matter of fact it scared you to the point you almost didn’t want to go to the door to get that dang candy (that frightening music playing, with the fog, and dimly lit front door, with the creepy guy… yikes!) It was as if everyone were on the same page with the holiday back then, the majority of the people got down to business and wanted to make it FUN! So how can you continue the haunting tradition for this year? Smart question readers, I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve that I would love to share…
Remember when the family carved pumpkins together and your parents pumpkins always looked so much better than yours, but it didn’t matter because once the candles were in and lit ALL the pumpkins looked awesome… even yours! Ha!
One of my favorite parts of each Halloween was carving pumpkins as a family. Growing up we had a eat-in kitchen, so each of us carried our pumpkins we picked at the store into that large kitchen and plopped our pumpkins on the kitchen table, turned on the Simpsons Halloween Special and got to work. After everyone had finished carving, we each were given a candle to place into our pumpkins and turned off the lights to see our final product. ooh la-la! Of course we tried to scare each other with scary noises when the lights were out, this included our creepy Witch laugh (my mom had that cackling laugh down and part of me wondered if she were actually a Witch in disguise… I’ve got my eye on you woman!) Anyway, those were great memories that I hope you have with your family. Please, get out there and buy some pumpkins and by all means carve away TOGETHER as a family… Here are some carving ideas to inspire you…

The stem as a nose, now why didn’t I think of that! The eyes are creepy!

I think that’s enough to get the ball rolling… it doesn’t matter if your pumpkin doesn’t look professional or if you’re an adult and somehow your kids’ pumpkin looks better than yours. It’s about sharing the moment together and having fun (and YES, you HAVE to put it outside come Halloween, no if ands or buts about it!)
DIY hanging ghosts and EyeBalls/Monsters
Say what Eloise? What are these DIY hanging ghosts and Eyeballs/Monsters you’re talking about? Glad you asked…
What you’ll need: Ping-Pong Balls, sharp scissors, Sharpie Markers, and Faux tea lights and/OR decorative strand of lights (Xmas lights) And if making the ghosts, use a thin white fabric (white mesh would be best).
How To: Cut holes OR slits that form an ‘X’ in the bottom OR top of the ping-pong balls (be careful), grab the sharpie and make a drawing of whatever you want ‘eyeballs or faces, etc…’ Then stick the light inside the hole and voilà. Note: if you’re making a ghost cut a slit in the fabric that lines up with the hole of the ping-pong ball to allow the light to be placed inside.

The Kids will have fun with this project!
I hope you can make this Halloween a ‘Halloween to remember.’ Enjoy the process of decorating, get your kids involved in the set up, tell scary stories or listen to them on CD’s… Oh, and for goodness sakes, show them the Michael Jackson Thriller Video, click here to view!
